This Discord is our home – it serves as our digital headquarters through which we foster our Community together. Our Discord is maintained to help provide a sense of community, as well as facilitate communication in and out of the game. It serves as our cozy electronic haven where members can check-in and chat at any hour of the day. A common area is provided as well as separate channels for activities such as RP, Raiding, Dungeons, PvP, and alternate game coordination. In order to foster the intended welcoming atmosphere, there are some basic rules – mostly common sense – that must be adhered to, to respect the social platform we have cultivated. Anyone who joins this discord agrees that they will follow the rules and are 21 years or older.
 

<•> While we may light-heartedly tease each other, we do not tolerate open attacks on individuals. If a friendly discussion appears to be escalating into something more intense, both parties should agree to disagree and move on to a different subject. No opinion or topic is worth potentially damaging a friendship, so please be respectful of both the individual players and the atmosphere of Discord.

 

<•> As preventative, incendiary topics of discussion (opinion-based arguments about real-world politics or religion, for example) are to be politely avoided – this is where players come to relax, so putting pressure or tension on others is not appropriate or acceptable. We also caution against any form of 'bashing' other players -- it is one thing to present a factual experience to warn fellow members about something, but it is not appropriate to go into a sensational rant about such. There is a fine line between helpful information and sensationalistic gossiping, and this is not the place for the second.

 

<•> If a member asks for an inflammatory topic to be dropped or avoided, all reasonable effort should be made to accommodate that request. If a member of Council vetoes a topic (whether it be something to do with Real World events or to do with Spoilers for new game storylines) all members, regardless of rank, shall endeavor to comply, for the benefit of the members.

 

<•> When arriving to an already flowing conversation, we kindly ask that members be attentive to what is being discussed, and not immediately interrupt or derail the ongoing topic with a new one. We hope that members will employ reasonable judgment when assessing the atmosphere -- if everyone is cheerfully discussing gaming, consider whether or not it is appropriate to crash a heavy piece of real-world news upon them, or if it would be more tactful to share that with just a few members in private. While we absolutely care about all of our members and wish to support them in any way we can, we also recognize that most individuals log in as a fun, fanciful break from the weights of the real world and maybe seeking relaxing and light-hearted exchanges.

 

<•> Communication is key to a friendly atmosphere, and if a member at any point feels uncomfortable they should privately contact the other player in question or a Council member to address the issue. Any problems should always be resolved in a respectful, rational, timely, and mature manner. Our central focus is having a comfortable community, so players can look forward to logging in. Joking aside, we are all adults and while here to have fun, are expected to interact in a sensible and respectful manner.

<•> We should all always take into consideration that individuals may interpret statements, senses of humor, and quality of voice differently than intended, and should be alert to that. If you are not sure, ask. There is no way another player will know that you are concerned unless you communicate your concern in a private, friendly, and respectful manner. Please be open and give each other the benefit of the doubt.

 

<•> It is important to respect the privacy of the FC, especially any personal information that may be shared over Discord by community members in the course of the conversation. Any information such as a player’s alt characters, real-life occupation, nationality, gender, political or sexual preference, should not be shared outside of Discord without the player’s permission to do so.

 

<•> As Discord is the center of our communications and is designed as a platform to support and encourage our Community, it is limited to applied, approved, active members of the community. As our safe haven, members are warmly encouraged to introduce themselves and be introduced by other members of the community -- we're all part of the community and should get to know our little family of digital comrades and friends.

 

<•> Never give out the Discord's information to another individual without explicit permission from the Council. When we work with other groups we organize and communicate in-game.

Please remember that you – our members – are our atmosphere, and we all need to work together to ensure that Discord remains an environment that you can look forward to relaxing, goofing off, and chatting in.

 

<•> Our community was built on the foundation that this Free Company is a safe environment where we can have fun and be among friends. Keeping in line with those ideals, we would like everyone to know that if they have any concerns about their own well-being or that of others, (be it in FFXIV, Discord, or other media) they are welcome to approach any member of the council for assistance. FFXIV in general has a great community, but we realize it's not always going to be perfect and that issues may arise here or there. Our goal is to continue to keep relaxing together and having fun!
